The main idea of the text is that although Serbia recently designated two new protected areas, the country still lags behind the European average in terms of land under protection. Only 8.66% of Serbia's territory is currently protected, compared to the EU average of 26.1%. This disparity highlights the need for greater conservation efforts in Serbia to meet European standards and protect its valuable biodiversity. The text emphasizes the importance of such areas for preserving unique ecosystems, endangered species, and scientific research. While the text celebrates the designation of new protected areas, it also points to a larger issue: the significant portion of Serbian land that remains unprotected and potentially vulnerable to degradation.
